In your First Year, your career development priorities should be to learn about yourself, determine your major(s), and understand how your degree fits with future careers.

  • Meet one-on-one with a Career Coach to discuss how different majors tie to careersK
  • Take an assessment to learn your unique skills, interests, and motivators which help determine the best career fit for you
  • Build your network by conducting informational interviews with people who have the jobs you might want!
  • Utilize our online resources such as our Resume and Cover Letter Guides

arrowSophomore Experience

The Career Roadmap will guide your career development during your time at UNCG and the Career & Professional Development team is here to help you along your career journey. In your Sophomore Year, your career development priorities should be to develop your resume, pursue an internship, and begin to network with alumni.

  • Drop by our Career Lab, M – F from 10am-4pm for quick consultations or schedule an individual appointment with one of our Career Coaches
  • Maintain strong grades and If your resume seems a bit light, begin enhancing your resume by joining a student organization, volunteering, or interning
  • Begin thinking about places you might like to intern and gain practical experience BEFORE you graduate; Research companies and industries available through our Libguide
  • "Are you LinkedIn? If not, CPD can help you develop your profile to create business connections, search for jobs, and find mentors.
    • Schedule an appointment to take a professional headshot in our office
  • Practice interviewing
    • Use InterviewStream to practice 24/7 from your home! Free to all current students!
    • Schedule an appointment to practice and prepare for face-to-face Interviews, telephone interviews and video interviews
  • Attend the Fall and Spring Career Fairs

arrowJunior Experience

The Career Roadmap will guide your career development during your time at UNCG and the Career & Professional Development team is here to help you along your career journey. In your Junior Year, your career development priorities should be to update your resume, develop an internship search action plan, evaluate if grad school is for you, and continue to network with alumni.

  • Update your resume to reflect any internships, campus leadership, class projects, and volunteer
  • Develop Internship Search Action Plan and meet with a career coach to review your company target list, job function target, and geographic locations of interest
  • Explore graduate degrees relevant to your career targets for application deadlines, procedures, and advice on "ideal candidates" for their programs.
  • Join UNCG Spartans Network and other UNCG LinkedIn Groups to expand your professional network
  • Practice interviewing
    • Use InterviewStream to practice 24/7 from your home! Free to all current students!
    • Schedule an appointment to practice and prepare for face-to-face Interviews, telephone interviews and video interviews
  • Attend the Fall and Spring Career Fairs

arrowSenior Experience

The Career Roadmap will guide your career development during your time at UNCG and the Career & Professional Development team is here to help you along your career journey. In your Senior Year, your career development priorities should be to develop a job search action plan, apply for graduate school programs (if interested), and actively network with alumni.

  • Start your job search early to ensure you can accept an offer by graduation
  • Develop Job Search Action Plan and meet with a career coach to review your company target list, job function target, and geographic locations of interest
  • Apply to graduate school programs ensuring you secure letters of recommendation and leverage the Writing Center on campus when drafting admissions essays
  • Attend the Fall and Spring Career Fairs
  • Network with faculty to obtain advice on your next career steps and on the job success
