Celebrating Working Spartans! Student Employee Appreciation Week

 

National Student Employee Appreciation Week is April 8-12, 2024. Our students play a critical role in the success of our efforts at UNCG. Without these "hidden heroes", many of the services and events we have come to love and enjoy would not be possible. We strongly encourage departments to take time to celebrate student employees during Student Employee Appreciation Week at UNCG.

Ways to Celebrate National Student Employee Appreciation Week:

 

Acknowledgements

  • ★ Purchase a card / hand-written notes
  • ★ Make a department card and customize for the occasion
  • ★ Host a celebration during a meeting and acknowledge students employees
  • ★ Create a large sign for the doors in a suite honoring your students
  • ★ As a Supervisor spend a day/hours in the shoes of the student worker
  • ★ Social media shoutouts highlighting student staff and what they do at the “G”
    • Examples: Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, etc.
  • ★ Create signs of appreciation and place at the student workstation(s)
  • ★ Student Workstation decoration
  • ★ Make a collage of student worker pics (virtually or for the office)
  • ★ Create a Video from all the office staff to student employees
  • ★ Upload shoutouts from supervisors to student employees to the website
  • ★ Send an email of recognition from supervisors/team to student employee(s)
  • ★ Certificates of Appreciation

Gifts/Food

  • ★ Purchase UNCG branded items from the Campus Bookstore
  • ★ Create “pick up and go” goodie bags
  • ★ Favorite candy bar or snack for staff
  • ★ Provide vouchers to Starbucks and /or Chick-fil-a
  • ★ Bake homemade goodies with a personal note to the student employee (s)
  • ★ Candy Ideas:

  • ★ Coordinate a lunch delivery during work hours
  • ★ Host a treat cart/station in the office

  • ★ Friendship Plants - take cuttings from a plant in the office and give to each student as a live “connection” to the office.
  • ★ Professional development books for staff

Events

  • ★ Plan staff bonding event for students outside of work hours
  • ★ Pie a supervisor
  • ★ Attend a UNCG sporting event as a department
  • ★ Arrange office Olympics competition
  • ★ Hold your own awards ceremony and design awards for unique categories (i.e., Best Attendance, Best Customer Service, Most Organized, etc.).

Other Ideas

  • ★ Let student staff pick music for the workplace
  • ★ Have an office mascot (stuffed animal, "Flat Stanley", etc.) that will be given to a student at each staff meeting with an acknowledgement of why they are the staff member of the week/month. Encourage staff members to appropriately decorate the mascot with something that symbolizes them or the team (stickers, pins, ribbons, etc.)
