How to search/apply for on campus jobs

  • All student employees MUST apply via *Handshake
  • To receive an update on the status of your application, you can contact the department listed on the job posting or view your job status on your Handshake profile.
  • You must have your documents (resume;cover letter) approved BEFORE you apply
  • Applying DOES NOT guarantee you a position

*Handshake is the job board system that connects UNCG students with a wide variety of job and internship opportunities. Various job opportunities will be posted on Handshake throughout the school year. We encourage you to actively search and apply for positions via Handshake. You must be enrolled for classes before logging on to Handshake!

Types of On-Campus Employment

Through the Federal Work Study program, you can secure an on-campus job to help pay for your educational expenses (including tuition) and give you valuable work experience.

Federal Work Study is awarded through the Financial Aid Office based on financial need. Financial need is determined by the information you or your family supplies on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Priority is given to those who file their FASFA by December 1st. Federal Work Study is a grant based program; thus, when all money has been awarded, no more funds are available for the year.

As a Federal Work Study student employee you will be paid for the hours you work, not to exceed the full amount of your award for the school year.

Check Handshake daily for new opportunities.

You do not need a work-study award to work on campus. Hourly positions are available for students, in various departments. Hourly student employees are paid for the hours they work and there is no cap on the maximum amount they can earn in a semester.

Check Handshake daily for new opportunities.

Graduate students will fill out Section 1 and complete Section 2 by showing the originals of their identity documents at the same time. The Student Employment Office completes I-9s by appointment only. Graduate students must sign up for an appointment via Handshake. They do not take walk-ins. International students must visit IPC before scheduling an appointment at the Student Employment Office to complete the I-9 process.

Graduate Students will need to bring the originals (no copies or electronic versions accepted) of their identity documents to the Student Employment Office at the time of their appointment.

Once the I-9 is approved by the Student Employment Office and approved by the E-Verify Federal system, Banner will be updated to show that their I-9 has been approved. Please note that some international students can take longer to get approved. The date on the United States Regulatory tab on PEAEMPL is the date the I-9 is officially completed, not their first day of work. This is the date required on some EPAFs.

Neither assistantships or EPAFs will be approved and completed fully until it is verified that an I-9 has been completed with the Student Employment Office. If you have access in Banner, the I-9 date will show on the United States Regulatory tab. Graduate assistants are not permitted by law to start working at UNCG until the I-9 has been approved. It is up to the department to verify a student has completed an I-9 before allowing a student to start work.
