How to search/apply for on campus jobs
- All student jobs are posted on *Handshake
- Upload your application document (resume, cover letter, etc.) before you apply for jobs
- When searching for on-campus jobs, log into Handshake. Look on your homepage for “On-campus jobs at UNC Greensboro” and start your job search.
- Applying does not guarantee you a position; schedule an appointment with a career coach to strengthen your resume & interview skills
- To receive an update on the status of your application, you can contact the department listed on the job posting or view your job status on your Handshake profile
*Handshake is the job board system that connects UNCG students with a wide variety of job and internship opportunities. Various job opportunities will be posted on Handshake throughout the school year. We encourage you to actively search and apply for positions via Handshake. You must be enrolled for classes before logging on to Handshake!
Types of On-Campus Employment
- FWS is a federally funded program for students who qualify as part of their financial aid package. To be considered for a FWS position, a student must be enrolled in at least 6 credit hours and have been awarded FWS after completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- To check whether you have been awarded FWS, log into UNCGenie, navigate to the Financial Aid tab, Award, and check Award Aid by Year. You must reapply for FAFSA every year to retain possible FWS eligibility.
- Students working FWS jobs on campus may work up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, never during scheduled class time or over the summer.
- Check Handshake daily for new opportunities.
- All enrolled students are eligible for departmental hire hourly jobs (non-FWS).
- A few of the largest employers on campus are Housing & Residence Life, Recreation & Wellness, the Library, and the Elliott University Center. Although many other offices on campus hire student workers as well.
- Students in these roles may work up to 28 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters, and possibly more hours in the summer. Hours must not be worked during scheduled class time.
- Check Handshake daily for new opportunities.
Graduate students will fill out Section 1 and complete Section 2 by showing the originals of their identity documents at the same time during their I-9 appointment. International students must visit the Global Engagement Office before scheduling an appointment with the Student Employment Office to complete the I-9 process.
Graduate Students will need to bring the originals (no copies or electronic versions accepted) of their identity documents to the Student Employment Office at the time of their appointment.
Once the I-9 is approved by the Student Employment Office and approved by the E-Verify Federal system, Banner will be updated to show that their I-9 has been approved. Please note that some international students can take longer to get approved. The date on the United States Regulatory tab on PEAEMPL is the date the I-9 is officially completed, not their first day of work. This is the date required on some EPAFs.
Remote Option
The Student Employment Office will allow remote I-9s on a case-by-case basis. The student must contact the Student Employment Office at SEO@uncg.edu to inquire if the remote option is an option for them. Please let them know to include as much detail as possible regarding why they need the remote option, to better help the Student Employment Office decide on the remote option.
Neither assistantships or EPAFs will be approved and completed fully until it is verified that an I-9 has been completed with the Student Employment Office. If you have access in Banner, the I-9 date will show on the United States Regulatory tab. Graduate assistants are not permitted by law to start working at UNCG until the I-9 has been approved. It is up to the department to verify a student has completed an I-9 before allowing a student to start work.
